USB NIC compatibility in software version??

I have a unique situation where i have an on-board NIC with no internal slots for an additional PCI NIC. So i was wondering if anyone knows if the software version would support the use of a USB NIC and if so (1) what brand/model? and (2) how would i go about configuring it?

Hi,
i think the used drivers are the most important thing,
i tried with a realtek pcmcia slot card an it worked fine.
i cannot say exactly wich model are support by the securepoint linux kernel,
but when you have a supported USB NIC the configuration is like a normal NIC.
