How can i overide a network port speed?

Beitrag von ajl119 »

Hello, I have a network interface with also has a cluster interface added to it.
This port occasionally locks up for some reason when data is passed over it all nearly full (93%) utilisation.
However it does not need to provide 100Mb, 10Mb is more than sufficient so I would like to try to set the port speed manually down to 10Mb to see if that makes it more stable, however I cannot set the port speed when a cluster interface also exists, so I removed the cluster interface from the eth id. I then tried to set the port seed to 10Mb, but it ignores my changes and stays at the Auto negotiated value! 
Once it is set to 10Mb I would then add the cluster interface back again.
Why will it not keep my setting of 10Mb?

Just to let people know, to do this I had to disconnect the network cable from the interface, remove the cluster interface, then change the speed and it worked. Once i reconnected the cable the NIC came up at the new speed. I then readded the cluster interface.
Please note I was trying this with a development code version of securepoint.
Cheers.

You can do this with the "ethtools" as user root for testing!

This tool set the speed directly to the interface!

Ah, I didn't realise you had left that in the distribution. Had I known... :)
