Installation problems

Upon installation, the machine hangs at Starting clamav version 0.90.3
when I reboot and I select to change the configuration, I receive this error ls: /databases: no such file or directory. and I am unable to select anything however I am able to type. What am I doing wrong?

Some information about the hardware would help to find out the "bug".

I think that I understood that the initial-setup ran successfully, but the next startup fails.
My focus leads to memory problems...as I mentioned in different test-environments with really less physical-memory.

Hello and thank you so much for your reply. I am running a PIII 800 Mhz Micron with 512 MB of ram and 80 GB ATA Hard Drive.

after a successfull install, do you see something like:
creating /etc
populating /etc
...?
can you ping 192.168.175.1 after the install?

I see the "creating /etc and the populating /etc but I cannot ping.
